FAU’s Ph.D. interdisciplinary Neuroscience Graduate Program curriculum encourages students to sample multiple neuroscience research areas during lab rotations in their first-year, while working alongside world-renowned faculty in different Colleges, Departments and in partnership with Max Planck Florida who are utilizing novel techniques to perform cutting-edge research in: Cellular, Molecular, and Biomedical Neuroscience – neural plasticity, learning and memory, neurodegeneration, drug discovery, neurodevelopment, neurogenetics; Sensorimotor, Cognitive, and Behavioral Neuroscience – systems neuroscience, physiological mechanisms underlying behavior and mental processes, EEG recording and brain imaging of humans and animal models; Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience – mathematical multi-scale models of neural functions, dynamic properties of neural circuits, consciousness, and machine learning

The Graduate Program in Neuroscience includes faculty members from several departments representing neuroscience, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and psychology, psychiatry, genetics, neurology, and animal sciences. The recently formed Brain Health Institute coordinates Neuroscience activities and seminars throughout the university.  Areas of specialization include production and analysis of mutant mouse activity; regulation of neural and glial gene expression; developmental neurobiology; autism; gliogenesis; neurogenesis; spinal cord injury; stem cell biology; synaptic plasticity; mechanisms and regulatory controls of learning and memory.

The Stanford Neurosciences Interdepartmental Program (IDP) offers interdisciplinary training leading to a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. The primary goal of the program is to train students to become leaders in neuroscience research, education and outreach. Graduates of the program will be innovators, investigators, and teachers whose programs and pursuits are founded on research. The signature feature of the Stanford Neurosciences IDP is the combination of outstanding faculty researchers and exceedingly bright, energetic students in a community that shares a firm and longstanding commitment to understanding the nervous system at all its levels of function.

We are a research-intensive program focused on understanding cognition, perception, and behavior, especially when underlying neural and hormonal mechanisms are developing. In addition to conducting research, successful applicants will take an integrated course curriculum across both behavioral and cognitive neuroscience to help foster innovative, cross-disciplinary work. The Neuroscience Institute at UTHSC is supported by the Neuroscience Center of Excellence, one of several Centers of Excellence established by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission in 1985.

Washington University in St. Louis has a long tradition of excellence in the neurosciences. Here, Erlanger first measured nerve conduction velocity and its relation to axon diameter. In the 1950s, Levi-Montalcini, Cohen and Hamburger discovered the first neuronal trophic factor, nerve growth factor. Today, a large and interactive faculty focuses interest on almost every area of modern neuroscience ranging from molecular analysis of ion channels to positron emission tomography of the human brain to the genetics of human brain diseases.
